Exmi tagged me. Here's the low-down on me as a mommy:
1. How long have you been a Mom? I
can’t believe how long it’s been: 9 years.
2. How many children call you Mommy?
Three!
3. Girl? Boy? or both?: boy, girl, boy
4. Did you know what you were having? As
Exmi said, we’ve had this discussion
before. I seem to be the only one among a crowd of women who didn’t
want to know. I wanted to open my present on Christmas Day, if you know what I
mean.
5. How old were you when you became a Mom? 30,
33 and 36.
6. How long were you in labor? The
first time: 12 hours and it ended in a
natural birth. The second: a week. Yes, you read right. I went into premature
labour with Hannah at 33 weeks after a fall and the drug, Ipradol, kept me from
giving birth for a week. Eventually, it refused to work anymore and I had an
emergency c-section. The third time: a few hours – maybe 7? But it was very
mild and I had a c-section after not much pain.
7. What’s your favorite thing about being a Mom? There
are so many things, but my favourite would have to be holding their hands. I
love how their hands fit into mine. It reminds me of my responsibility as a
mother.
8. What’s
your least favorite thing? Again, so many things. Least fave, I
suppose, is the screeching tantrums. Jonah seems to be redefining the terrible
twos. It’s so not fun.
9. Do you want more kids? Nooooooo. I was just saying to Scott today that I think God planned it that I
had Jonah last. He’s so strong-willed and demanding that he’s completely put me
off having more children.
Do
you plan on having more soon?
11. How many times have you been pee’d on? Only once,
amazingly. Jonah was quite the projectile pooper, though. Scott’s been peed and
pooped on far more times than I have.
12. Barfed on? A few.
My bed has suffered most with this. They always seem to throw up on my sheets.
13. Is your child named after anyone? We
liked the idea of family names, so James is named after my dad (his second
name) and brother-in-law (his second name). His second name, Alexander, is
after Scott’s grandfather. Hannah is named after my granny and her second name,
Rose, was after Scott’s mom, Rosemary. Jonah was just a name we liked and it
fitted in with James and Hannah. Liam, his second name, is after my cousin.
14. How did you come up with their name? See
above.
15. When your child gets in trouble, who is the bad
guy? I think I can be pretty strict, but when they want
comfort, they come to me. I suppose we can both be the bad guy, depending on
who’s more cross at the time.
16. What is the longest you have been away from your
children? 2 weeks. I went to America in 2005, when Hannah was 3.
I’m about to go away again for 2 weeks and I’m feeling a bit hysterical about
it…
17. Bedtime routine? We
used to be so good with this when it was just James. We read to him endlessly –
sometimes the same story 4 times over. When Hannah came along, we carried on
with the reading, but it was a struggle. Now, with Jonah? They’re lucky if they
get a story once or twice a week. Terrible. They all love early bed time
though. They’re trained to get tired at around 7/7.15.
18. Are your toes painted?
19. Last movie you saw in the theater? Gah: “Open
Season 2” for James’s 9th birthday. I hate animated movies at the
best of times, but this one was beyond bad.
20. One thing you will not give up just because you’re
a mom? Being my own person. I don’t want to be “only
a mom”. I love intellectual stimulation – writing, books, movies, interesting
conversations and my job.
21. One thing you did give up now that you’re a mom: Peeing
alone.
22. Best Mom perk: Listening
in to hilarious kiddie-conversations when they don’t realize I’m there.
23. Snack, you sneak bites from your child? Only
when they’re not looking.
24. When the kid is napping, you are: Tidying
the house, cleaning the toilet, doing laundry, surfing the net, reading a
magazine and drinking rooibos tea. Sometimes all of the above simultaneously.
25. Where is your child(ren) now? In
bed, asleep.
26. Favorite place to buy maternity clothes? Never
did.>
27. If I could do it over…I’d
have had children younger. There are perks to being older – I don’t think I
would have been quite as confident as I am now – but it’s exhasuting. I could
even feel the difference in those three years between Hannah and Jonah.
28. Did it turn out the way
you expected? Not at all. I thought I’d never have children. Three
years of infertility and I was reading books about being childfree. Life is
weird.
I tag anyone who wants to participate. Please link back.
